It’s great to have a studio in town and you should be proud because I think you are definitely meeting your goals in building a business with a sense of community. My expectations have gone beyond pure desire to feel well with exercise, and have become a personal search for well being and fulfillment. It’s so hard training to be a yogi!!! I admire so much the discipline of self awareness, and what it takes to maintain a healthy mind and body through yoga. I sometimes fall of the path but at least I feel like I'm walking the right path to a better life. I believe in the power of yoga as a form of therapy for healing and know it through my own experience of recovery through abuse and loss of self. I survived 7 years of a violent relationship with someone who was very sick. He was abusive in every way, and at 15 I was easily confused into believing that I could change him, but in turn gave almost every part of myself to be stripped away. Trying to shed guilt and pain is like pulling off pieces of body armor. It weighs you down emotionally and affects every aspect of a person’s life. Yoga has helped heal my body from that hurt and regain a connection that was completely lost to numbness. Through reading yoga journal articles and practicing at home with my beloved Steve Ross, I began the journey that eventually led to you and your studio... A journey that is leading to some long overdue healing and reflection... not to mention a great workout!

Yoga for me started about 5 years ago. 1 year prior to that I weighed in at 260 pounds. I felt hopeless and in bad health. I had horrible eating habits. Soda and lots of junk. Little activity other than my job. One day with little planning I woke up and decided to change my life and educate myself on what to do to lose weight. I began my exercise routine with speed walking 6 days a week for about an hour and a half. That took of 50 lbs off in about 6 months. Then I saw mention of yoga on TV and figured with my new found energy I would try the YMCA yoga classes. The addition to my routine lead to another 50 lbs in weight loss.
So back then for me that’s all I really got out of it was a workout. I never really relaxed my mind. Your class has in many ways changed my outlook on Yoga entirely. It’s hard for me to explain really but somehow it helps me find answers. It opens my mind and my heart. It reminds me how being healthy is a gift that we should all cherish. As I mentioned I don’t really get how it happens but it has open many doors in my life and for that you’re to be commended. I enjoy your class a great deal and I'm glad to be a part of it.
